Here it is, from The Atlantic, my article, "Badlands Revisited: A 1974 Memoir of Murderous Days in Nebraska."

Charles Starkweather and Caril Fugate left a trail of corpses—and an astonished nation—behind them as they roamed through Nebraska in the winter of 1958. They were an aberration, a pathological quirk in an otherwise rational world. Or were they?

The Atlantic is a high-quality American magazine founded in 1857. It has won more national awards for excellent than any other monthly magazine.
